a benchmarking approach to optimal asset allocation for insurers and pension funds

uncertainty in the financial market will be driven by underlying brownian motions, while the assets are assumed to be general stochastic processes adapted to the filtration of the brownian motions. the goal of this study is to calculate the accumulated wealth in order to optimize the expected terminal value using a suitable utility function. this thesis introduced the lim-wong’s benchmark fun...

Optimal Scaling for Partially Updating Mcmc Algorithms

In this paper we shall consider optimal scaling problems for highdimensional Metropolis–Hastings algorithms where updates can be chosen to be lower dimensional than the target density itself. We find that the optimal scaling rule for the Metropolis algorithm, which tunes the overall algorithm acceptance rate to be 0.234, holds for the so-called Metropolis-within-Gibbs algorithm as well. Further...

A Dirichlet Form Primer

A Dirichlet form (E , D(E)), like a Feller semigroup, is an analytic object that can be used to construct and study a certain Markov process {Xt}t≥0. Unlike the Feller semigroup approach, which uses a pointwise analysis, the Dirichlet form approach uses a quasi-sure analysis, meaning that we are permitted to ignore certain exceptional sets which are not visited by the process. This slight ambig...

A MCMC Approach to Hierarchical Mixture Modelling

There are many hierarchical clustering algorithms available, but these lack a firm statistical basis. Here we set up a hierarchical probabilistic mixture model, where data is generated in a hierarchical tree-structured manner. Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methods are demonstrated which can be used to sample from the posterior distribution over trees containing variable numbers of hidden units.

A Split-Merge MCMC Algorithm for the Hierarchical Dirichlet Process

Abstract The hierarchical Dirichlet process (HDP) has become an important Bayesian nonparametric model for grouped data, such as document collections. The HDP is used to construct a flexible mixed-membership model where the number of components is determined by the data. As for most Bayesian nonparametric models, exact posterior inference is intractable—practitioners use Markov chain Monte Carl...
